A BRIEF HISTORY
The ECB was established in 1983 for the benefit of the consumer, manufacturer, importer, retailer, registered persons and the installation industry through constantly participating at the coal front in the SABS committees, including attending many International forums.
The ECB carried out the regulatory function of contractor registration from 1993 until 2012. The registration of contractors remained with the ECB until 31st August 2012, when the Department of Labour took over this function.
Since 1st September 2012 the ECB has operated a Listing Scheme for the benefit of all which allows the public to verify that the registered person they are using are properly qualified. Each person wishing to list with the ECB, is required to give proof in the form of a certified copy of their qualifications and a registration certificate with the Department of Labour.
WHAT THE ECB DOES TODAY
In view of recent developments, the ECB wishes, in the context of the Electrical Installation Industry, to continue to work with the regulators, industry and consumer. The ECB will continue to strive to maintain standards by offering an unbiased opinion, service and advice when requested to do so by any stakeholders, in respect of the fixed electrical installation, or the materials used in the construction of an electrical installation.
The ECB aims to achieve this by offering, in terms of its constitution, a Listing Scheme for all companies, industries and registered persons. The ECB wishes to provide the Electrical Installation Industry with a body to list competent companies and individuals, to ensure quality assurance within the industry, for the benefit of the consumer and the industry, in its broadest sense.
WHAT IS ECB LISTING?
In response to requests from the industry, the ECB has established a Listing Scheme. ECB Listing is for all registered persons and promotes the use of compliant products only.
